From the desk of Lonnie J. Rolland
Please find (contained within the zip) the file group for Logger Generic.
Included is a normal and tsr version of the data collector.
The data is kept in dBase format. The program can be ran in single or
local area network mode. Each record has a data field and (up to) 8KB
memo pad area. Logger's functions are: add, delete, browse, and search.
Ascii text can be imported into the pad. Output can be sent to the printer
or a text file. Records can be password locked with a word key so others
may not alter them.
The executable needs and uses a config file called 'L3GES.CFG'.
The config file is read to obtain the following information:
1st) the Logger title that sits top center when its envoked.
2nd) the drive and subdirectory to where the .dbf/.dbt is placed.
3rd) optional 'data' that may be (auto) stuffed into field one.
4th) optional 'data' that may be (auto) stuffed into field two.
5th) four groups of numbers that set the four colors! There are 128
possible color combinations. Run 'config.exe' to check it out.
6th) configuration parameter letters: a 'm' or a 'c' to force mono or
color display mode, an 'n' if you want network share locks, a 'd'
if you want to run in a bbs doorway mode, an 'o' to force open
records locked with a different lgkey than yours. So you may put:
'nothing' or 'm' or 'c' or 'n' or 'd' or 'o' or 'cn' or 'nd' or...
7th) would need the path to where 'door.sys' could be found if you use
the bbs doorway mode.
8th thru the 23rd) are the sixteen field labels.
This is version 1.08 of the program. What have I changed from version
1.06? PLENTY! But first a review of the changes from version 1.03 to
1.06. I removed the time and elapsed tracking and the multi database
choose functions. I changed the fields sizes and number. I added record
deletion. I added printer output and ascii text output. I added record
ownership 'keys' which is essential in a network work group or bbs. And
finally I fixed a number of obscure bugs too.
For version 1.07 I put time tracking and choose back in.
For version 1.08 I took the choose from multi dbfs back out. I modified
the search function so that matches build up a pick list to scroll
through. I changed the field sizes and number again. I re-wrote the
quick help. You now can print and delete (besides select) from the
browse and search functions. I removed the suspend from edit mode
because I was told it annoyed. I doubled the (potential) memo pad
size to 8K bytes. And finally you can read an ascii file into
the memo pad while in edit.
The 'search' function now builds a full screen pick list and operates
off of SIX (the 4th/5th/11th/12th/15th and 16th) fields. For the
supplied config file, that would make it the caller/customer/hardward/
software/problem/and resolved fields.
The date/time is grabbed from DOS and automatically plugged in.
Set a environment variable called 'NETNAME' to your name if you (auto-
matically) want your name put into the 3rd field (BY: ).
Run the supplied program 'config.exe' to make (easy) changes to the
ascii config file. Change the four colors to something you like. After
the colors are right, press <esc> to go on to editing the labels. Press
<esc> to exit the second part and <y>es to save your changes. Its easy.
The config file NEEDS to have all 23 lines. Change them to the labels
you want. If you don't want all the labels, leave that label line blank
and the 'add/edit' skips over the field. The config file must be in the
same place as the executable file. Don't use the doorway (D) config
switch if you are not using logger as a BBS door. It plain won't run
when it goes out looking for needed files.
relax and enjoy!
